Prior to emigrating to this country heserved for seven years in the army of France. Coming to the United States in 1847, he settled in St. Louis Mo. and there worked his trade until 1859, atwhich time he moved to Clinton County, Ill., and remained with his son Johnuntil his death, March 8, 1888. He joined the Republican party after comingto America, and always supported the principles of that party. He was a member of the Catholic Church, in which faith his ancestors, almost without exception, had lived and died. His wife, who was also a a member of the CatholicChurch in St. Louis, Mo. in 1855. In thir family were three sons, all of whomare living. Champear, the eldest, resides in Cincinnati; John, Jr., is the secont in order of birth and Peter, the youngest, now a resident of the state of Washington, is engaged in farming. Hi, I looked at your genealogy several years ago and sent you an e-mail, but never heard ba ck. Yes, we are related. Mary's brother George was my great-grandfather. However, I didn' t know Mary's exact birth date. I always thought she was the oldest child, but she may hav e been the second child if she was born in 1868. I eventually traced the Kuhns (and Schmitt s) to Wiesviller, France. I've even received e-mails from two distant relatives in France. Attached is a photo of the Osterholz and Kuhn families. Most of the people belong to the Ost erholz family (my great-grandma, George's wife, was an Osterholz). However, I'm 99% certai n that John Kuhn is the second to last man standing in the top row. The man sitting in fron t of him is his son, George. The man standing next to the woman holding a baby is, I think , his son Andrew. Can you identify any other people in this picture?
